Henri Mura

Scubapiti Moorea is run by Henri Mura, a Polynesian born in Moorea and owner of the centre. A French state-qualified instructor (E4) and SDI/TDI Course Director, he is a PADI, SSI and SDI instructor: diving or whale watching with him means doing it with someone who knows the island, its sites, its seasons and its wildlife.

Henri is also Enata Fakarava Diving, in Fakarava.

The centre

The centre is on the beach of the Les Tipaniers hotel, in Hauru (Haapiti), open 7 days a week, all year round.

Our boat takes 15 divers and 3 instructors; a second 12-seat boat joins in the low season. Each instructor guides at most 5 certified divers, 4 in training.

What qualifications do your instructors have?
The centre is run by Henri Mura, born in Moorea, a French state-qualified diving instructor (E4), SDI/TDI Course Director and PADI, SSI and SDI instructor. He works with Paitia (dive guide, CPL) and Jean Pradal (dive guide, PADI instructor). Maeva and Céline handle the office and bookings.
Are you licensed, and how are you equipped for emergencies?
Scubapiti is registered with the Youth and Sports Department for scuba diving and snorkeling (no. 09/26 DJS/APS/Exp.), and authorised by the Environment Department for whale approach (order no. 5133/MPR/DIREN). There is oxygen on board, and the nearest hyperbaric chamber is in Tahiti.
What is your commitment to the lagoon and its wildlife?
We watch whales within the regulatory framework set by the Environment Department: an authorised boat, a certified crew and a minimum distance of 100 metres. Our sightings are reported to the French Polynesia observatory of emblematic species. And we ask our divers to use reef-safe sun protection.
How many boats do you have?
Our boat takes 15 divers and 3 instructors; a second 12-seat boat is added in the low season.
